By what they haul
The fastest way to filter the ~530K-carrier universe down to what fits your goals: pay structure, lifestyle, and the kind of freight you want on your back.
Dry Van
The biggest segment. Most carriers run dry van.
Reefer
Refrigerated specialists with tight delivery windows.
Flatbed
Open-deck carriers — steel, lumber, machinery.
Tanker
Liquid bulk haulers. Hazmat-heavy. Premium pay.
Box Truck
Local and regional, non-CDL straight-truck operators.
Doubles/Triples
LTL linehaul. Predictable schedules, premium for non-union.
Intermodal
Port drayage and rail-yard containers.
Specialized
Heavy haul, oversize, wind, oilfield.

By how big they are
Fleet size is the single biggest predictor of how your job will feel day-to-day — trainer quality, dispatcher attention, route flexibility, pay structure. Big isn’t better; it’s different.
Mega-fleet
5,000+ trucks#1National carriers running 5K-30K+ trucks. Big training programs, OTR-default, lots of new-grad hiring.
e.g., Swift, Schneider, Werner, J.B. Hunt, Knight-Swift
Regional
500–5,000 trucks#2Mid-large carriers. Often regional specialists — flatbed, reefer, food-service. Better dispatch ratios than mega-fleets.
e.g., Maverick, TMC, Stevens, Roehl, CR England
Mid-size
50–500 trucks#3Strong company culture. Best regional and home-daily jobs often live here. Reputation matters; the rumor mill is small.
e.g., State-level specialists, food-service local, dedicated lanes
Small
5–50 trucks#4Family-owned or niche regional. Dispatcher knows your name. Often willing to train newer drivers if you live nearby.
e.g., Local specialty hauls, regional dedicated routes
Owner-op
1–4 trucks#5Single-truck owner-operators or small fleets. Most don't advertise jobs publicly — relationships and word-of-mouth.
e.g., Independent contractors, single-truck operations
By who they hire
Curated cuts of the carrier universe for the most common driver profiles — new grads, flatbed specialists, regional/home-daily seekers, refrigerated experts.
Best for new grads
12 carriers that actually hire 0-experience CDL drivers with structured training programs. Ranked by training pay, solo CPM, and reputation.
Best flatbed carriers
Maverick, TMC, Melton, Roehl — carriers with real securement training and competitive tarp/accessorial pay structures.
Best regional & home-daily
Regional and home-daily jobs are concentrated in food-service distribution (Sysco, US Foods) and dedicated lanes at mid-size carriers.
Best reefer carriers
Prime, Stevens, USA Truck, CR England — refrigerated specialists. Pay premium over dry van varies; trainer quality varies more.
How we research and organize 530K carriers
Our carrier index is built on FMCSA SAFER — the federal Safety and Fitness Electronic Records system. Every active US trucking carrier with a DOT number is in our database: ~530,000 entities ranging from owner-operators to mega-fleets. We refresh FMCSA data monthly: safety ratings, fleet size, power-unit counts, out-of-service rates, crash records, and physical addresses.
On top of FMCSA, we layer three additional signals when available: (1) carrier-published pay structures (cross-referenced quarterly against their own pay pages), (2) freight type classification derived from cargo categories carriers self-report to FMCSA, and (3) verified carrier self-serve listings — carriers who’ve completed our intake at /post-job and confirmed they’re actively recruiting.
We never publish: driver review sites we can’t verify, recruiter testimonials, or AI-generated “reviews.” The carrier opinions you see in our editorial copy come from public forum patterns (TruckersReport, /r/Truckers), carrier-published material, and FMCSA records. When we say a carrier has a strong training program, we cite the program. When we flag a carrier with caution, we explain why.
The Soul governing this site refuses to surface carriers with FMCSA Unsatisfactory safety ratings or out-of-service rates above 30% to driver-facing pages. Those carriers exist in our database for completeness but they’re excluded from recommendations, search results, and editorial cuts. This is non-negotiable.
Top carriers by fleet size
The largest carriers indexed on LMDR. Fleet size is a rough proxy for hiring volume — mega-fleets typically hire continuously across the country.

How to use this carrier hub
How do I research a carrier before applying?expand_more
Four sources. (1) Their own pay page — cross-reference against what the recruiter tells you. (2) FMCSA SAFER (look up the DOT number) for safety rating, crash rate, out-of-service violations. (3) Driver forums (TruckersReport, /r/Truckers) — search the carrier name plus "review 2026". (4) FMCSA Training Provider Registry if they run their own school.
What does FMCSA "Satisfactory" safety rating actually mean?expand_more
It's the highest of three ratings FMCSA assigns. Most carriers have NO rating because compliance reviews are infrequent — that's normal. Conditional means deficiencies require correction. Unsatisfactory effectively grounds the carrier. We refuse to surface Unsatisfactory carriers on driver-facing pages.
Why do some carriers have published pay and others don't?expand_more
Mega-fleets and regional specialists publish pay because they recruit at scale. Mid-size and small carriers often negotiate pay individually. Lack of published pay isn't automatically a red flag, but vague answers when you ask for the pay structure in writing IS.
How do I know if a carrier is "new-grad friendly"?expand_more
Look for: a formal training program with a public page, trainer-phase weekly pay published in writing, a 6-month or 12-month CPM step, and Satisfactory or unrated FMCSA. Avoid carriers that only say "competitive pay" without specifics.
What's the difference between a "verified" carrier on LMDR vs an unverified one?expand_more
Verified carriers have completed our post-job intake — they confirmed their DOT against FMCSA, verified an email, and accepted a structured offer-listing format we can route driver leads against. Unverified profiles are auto-generated from FMCSA + public data, accurate at a snapshot but not actively maintained by the carrier.
Can I see carrier reviews from other drivers?expand_more
We don't host our own review system — there's no way to verify reviews aren't recruiter-pumped or competitor-sabotaged. We cite forum patterns where the signal is strong, but for first-hand reviews, TruckersReport.com and /r/Truckers are more reliable.
How often is carrier data updated?expand_more
FMCSA data refreshes monthly for our universe of ~530,000 carriers. Pay ranges in our editorial copy are quarterly-refreshed against carrier published rates and BLS data.
I'm a carrier — how do I get listed?expand_more
